Willie James Scott was born February 21, 1940 in Nesmith, SC to the late Johnny Scott and Roszena Pressley-Scott. He spent his early years in Nesmith and later moved to Jersey City as a young man. There he held numerous jobs until he retained a permanent job driving for N.J. Transit. There he spent several years serving the city before retiring.
In 1961, he met his loving and devoted wife Etta L. Mays. A union that gave them two loving children. It was a love that preserved him, comforted and supported him through his last days. He and his family returned to South Carolina and resided in Orangeburg, S.C. He was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church and became a member of The Male Choir until his health began to decline.
He was preceded in death by his son Nathaniel Merrick.
He is survived by five children; James A. (Carleen) Scott, Debra (Micheal) Johnson, Ronald (Annette) Bennett, Lisa Bennett and Samantha Prioleau, reared as his own, Lakesia Haynes and Precious Davis; sister Racheal Johnson; twenty-one grandchildren and twenty-one great-grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
