Willie Fred Rose, Jr. Obituary

 On August 1, 2024, Mr. Willie Fred Rose, Jr., passed over peacefully and went home.
Born in Apopka, FL, he was a son of the late Willie Fred Rose, Sr., and Mattie Henry Rose, both of whom preceded him in death.
Fred, sometimes affectionately called Claude by relatives and friends in Florida, graduated from Phyllis Wheatley High School, where he was a standout basketball player, earning him scholarship offers from several colleges. He chose to further his education at Johnson Junior College.
He was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Orangeburg, SC.
Fred was employed as a scheduler at Eastman Kodak in Rochester, NY, and at Carolina Eastman in Columbia, SC.
His hobbies included solving word puzzles, playing golf, and playing basketball. At work, he started and participated in several basketball leagues.
Fred was very active in his community and knew no strangers.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Dr. Mildred Day-Rose; two children, Brion Carlton (Blanca) of Studio City, CA, and Alysa Camille of the home. Fred had fond nicknames for both of. his children: Brion was called “Sport.” Alysa was called “Lil Bit,” and she, in turn, lovingly called Fred “Papa Bear” and had him wrapped around her finger; four sisters, Ms. Brenda Elaine Rose, Orlando, FL; Mrs. Natalie Rose Bell (Reginald), Orlando, FL; Dr. Deborah A. Rose, Apopka, FL; and Rev. Phyllis Rose Brown (Greg), Orlando, FL; one sister-in-law, Dr. M. Theresa Nichols (Bobby), Orangeburg, SC; a special niece, Ms. Yvette Nichols, Stonecrest, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by siblings Dr. Vera Rose Poitier (Maurice) and Maxey S. Rose.


The service will proceed as follows:


The viewing will be held on Friday, August 9,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.


The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 10,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
