The call to eternal peace and rest came to Vernon Wallace on Sunday, November 8, 2020. He was born on November 7, 1950 in St. Stephen, South Carolina to the late Thomas & Florence Wallace. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 23 years, Brenda Rose Wallace, siblings Ann Flynn, Thomasena Sanders, Ernestine Dixson & Thomas Wallace, Jr., and granddaughter Dijonna Adams.
Vernon Wallace received his secondary education in the public schools of Berkeley County. He graduated from Claflin College (now University) in 1973 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science. While attending Claflin, Vernon served as president of the “Bus Committee” an organization which raised funds to purchase Claflin’s first bus. He also served as president of the Pre-Alumni Council for two years.
Vernon received a Master’s degree in Education in 1978 from South Carolina State University and started his career as a teacher with the Greenville County Public Schools. He was employed at Claflin for six years before accepting a po- sition with the Bamberg School District. Vernon worked with the Bamberg School District for 35 years as a teacher, coach, and guidance counselor. He retired in June 2016 with the distinction of being the first African American Director of Guidance at Bamberg-Ehrhardt High School.
Vernon was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. He previously served on the Church Council, as secretary to the Board of Trustees, and Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Vice Chairman of the Board of the Child Care Learning Center. His civic and community memberships in- cluded Life Member of the Claflin University International Alumni Association, Claflin University Orangeburg County Alumni Association, NAACP Orangeburg Branch, The Na- tional Education Association, The South Carolina Education Association, United States Selective Service Board and Life Member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.

Vernon served many years as the treasurer of the Orangeburg Alumni Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Inc., Delta Zeta Lambda.
Vernon leaves to cherish his memory three children, Sylvia (Jetta Thompson) of St. Matthews, SC, Terrance (Ronda) Rose of Stone Mountain, GA and Chartara (Jamal) Hunt of Houston, TX. A longtime companion of 20 years, Diane Bracey of Orangeburg, SC; two siblings Lillie Mae Johnson of Bonneau, SC and Joseph Wallace of St. Stephen, SC; eight Grandchildren: Quinndolyn (Typhon Singleton), Emoni, Devanie, Danielle, Terrance II, David, Brendan & DaVee-Auna; five Great-grandchildren: David, Makila, Shayla, Terell & Keymoni and a multitude of nieces, nephews, brother & sister-n-laws, cousins, extended family members, fraternity brothers, friends, and supportive colleagues.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Friday,November 13,2020 at Glover's Funeral Home at 12:00pm until 6:00pm.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday,November 14,2020 at Belleville Memorial Gardens beginning at 11:00am. Services will be streamed live on our Facebook page Glover's Funeral Home of Orangeburg. All those attending must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
