Brother Troy Malinder was born December 5, 1955 in Orangeburg County. He was the son of the late Thomas Malinder and Sadie Carson Malinder. He is the grandson of the late Henry and MaeElla Carson and Deacon Martin and Lizzie Malinder. He was called home with eternal glory and rest on June 27, 2023 at Providence Hospital, Columbia, SC.
At an early age he joined the Andrew Chapel Baptist Church and served faithfully as a child. He was routinely in Sunday School, a participant in the many church concerts as a youth. Troy received his early education in Bowman High School graduating in 1974. He was a member of the football team and the baseball team. He was also an honor roll student, and also a School Bus Driver. He graduated from Claflin University in 1978. He majored in Chemistry, with a minor in Mathematics. He is a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.
After College, he was commissioned in the US Army as a Second Lieutenant and obtained a final ranking of Major. He served in the Gulf War as a Chemical Officer. He also served a tour in Europe. Decorations and medals awarded include: Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal, Army Service Medal, and Overseas Service Ribbon. During his tour in the US Army, he was formerly married to Dr. Deborah Strothers. After returning to civilian life, he fathered and raised a son with Jequetta Z. Brothers. He briefly taught high school mathematics, as well as a TRX instructor, and held management positions at McDonald's Restaurant in Orangeburg County.
He was preceded in death by his sister Thomascina Malinder Capehart.
He leaves to cherish fond memories, a son Levon Malinder, one grand-daughter Alexandria Malinder; two sisters Francine M. Dantzler of Concord, NC and Monica A. Malinder of Bowman, SC; one brother Thomas B. Malinder of Bowman, SC; one sister-in-law Rose Malinder; one brother-in-law Lonnie C. Dantzler, Jr; six aunts, Lizzie Bell Watkins of Jersey City, New Jersey, Dr. Ollie M. Robinson of Bowman, SC, Margaret Bailey of Bowman, SC, Miriam Malinder of Philadelphia, PA, Laurene Mitchell of Orangeburg, SC, Wilhelmina Lawton of Columbia, SC; two uncles Reverend Andrew Robinson, Bowman, SC, Ivory Minnigan of Newark, NJ, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family. He also leaves a significant other, Patricia Howell of Moncks Corner, SC
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Sunday, July 2,2023 at Glover's Funeral Home from 2:00pm until 7:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Monday, July 3,2023 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
