Thomas Jones, Jr. Obituary

Thomas Jones Jr. a son of Alma M. Walley-Jones and the late Thomas Jones Sr. was born on Decemger 27, 1979 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Thomas transitioned to his heavenly home on Sunday, August 1, 2021.

His spiritual Journey began at an early age, attending church with his family at Greater Faith Baptist Church. Later at Trinity United Methodist Church, and Empowerment Temple, Baltimore, Maryland. Upon his moving back to South Carolina, he became a member at The Brook in Columbia.

Thomas received his formal education in the public schools of Orangeburg, beginning with preschool at The Child Development Center and Felton Laboratory School, both on South Carolina State University campus. He also attended Orangeburg-Wilkinson High, graduating in 1998. Thomas went on to attend Claflin University, graduating in 2002.

Thomas began his professional career as a teacher in Savannah, Georgia. He furthered his education by attending graduate school at Savanna State University. He later relocated to Baltimore, Maryland to work at the Social Security Administration and also attended Penn State University. Upon the death of his father, he made a career change fulfilling a commitment to return to Orangeburg and the Tom Jones Insurance Agency to carry on his father’s legacy along with his mom and brothers. He did that faithfully until his health declined.

Thomas’ fraternal, social and professional affiliations include Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, and Masonic Lodge #39, The Urban League Young Professionals and Bureau Bullies a consumer law group. He was also actively involved with the Media Ministry at The Brook.

Thomas was preceded in death by uncles, Jeffery Walley of New York, and Hubert Jones, St. Matthews, SC and an aunt, Minnie Randolph of Fort Washington, MD.

He leaves to cherish fond memories, his mother, Alma (Nelson); two brothers, Terrance Cornell and Todd Edward, all of the home; Grandparents, Lizzie Marie Packer of New York City, NY, and Franklin Haskell of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; Aunts, Tanya (Tony) Packer-Ward New York City, NY, Lucille (Calvin) Roberson, Winterville, North Carolina, Evelyn Hester, Brooklyn, NY, Queenie (James) Ghee, Washington, D.C., Sadie (Lester) Whitfield, Clinton, Md. and Frances Jones, St. Matthews, SC; Uncles, Frederick (Geri) Packer, Kissimme, Florida, Reverend Joe Louis Randolph, Ft, Washington, Md., Eddie (Barbara) Jones and David (Doretha) Jones all of St. Matthews, SC; Raymond Jones of Oxen Hill, MD and Alonzo Jones of Stone Mountain Georgia. He also leaves a host of great-aunts and uncles, cousins, friends, church members and colleagues.

 

 

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Saturday, August 7,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home from 4:00pm until 8:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, August 8,2021 at Department of Visual and Performing Arts on South Carolina State University 300 College St. Orangeburg, SC 29117 beginning at 12:00pm.
