Shirley Ann Jennings Stretch, daughter of the late Emma Lee Jennings and Carey Jennings, was born August 15, 1943 in Rowesville, South Carolina and departed this life on Wednesday, November 2, 2022 after an extended illness.
Shirley was an only child but had a host of cousins whom she regarded as siblings and remained close to throughout her life.
She migrated to New York as a young adult where she met and married Joseph Stretch Jr. This union resulted in two daughters. Shirley earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood Education and worked as a teacher for over 30 years before retiring.
In 2000 Shirley moved back to South Carolina to care for her mother in her advanced age. She later moved to Georgia to be close to her daughter and grandchildren
Shirley came to know and serve the Lord initially as a member of Prospect United Methodist Church in Rowesville, SC and most recently at Union Chapel United Methodist Church in Marietta, GA. She had a giving and warm spirit that touched everyone around her. Shirley believed in helping family and her fellow man in any way she was equipped to do so.
Preceding her in death are her mother Emma Lee Jennings and father Carey Jennings.
Leaving to cherish her life and mourn her loss are: her daughters, Monica F. Stretch of Owings Mills, Maryland and Jennifer R. Williams and son in law Ricky Williams of Dallas, Georgia; former husband Joseph Stretch Jr., five grandchildren, Jordan, Christina, Rachel, Hannah and Sarah Wales as well as a special daughter Sally L. Rushing of New York, NY, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Wednesday, November 9,2022 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 7:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Thursday, November 10,2022 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 12:00pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
