During your journey on your final flight home, white wings will carry you and you will be flown to the pearly gates of Heaven, where they will usher you in to the feet of your Lord, your Savior, and your friend. Ms. Ruth Elizabeth Johnson was born on September 21,1967 in Calhoun County. She entered into eternal rest on April 19,2021 at Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill, SC.
She was the youngest daughter of the late Laurie Johnson and Elouise Green Johnson.
She received her education at the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind in Spartanburg, SC. She graduated Salutatorian of her class at the South Carolina for the Deaf and Blind May Class of 1986. She furthered her education at Gallaudet University in Washington, DC; Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College studying Early Childhood Education and Midlands Technical College where she studied Mathematics. She was employed at Ryan’s as a baker for Orangeburg and Cayce. She then worked for Dollar General.
She was a loving and caring mother who enjoyed watching and playing sports. She held many awards for track and field, volleyball, and basketball at the South Carolina School of the Deaf and Blind. She never missed a game when her sons played sports.
She was a devoted attendee of Ames Road Church of Christ in Columbia, SC; where she taught American Sign Language. She was known for her work ethic and pleasant personality.
She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She was also an amazing cook.
Ruth preceded in death by her parents: Laurie Johnson and Elouise Green Johnson, four brothers: Joseph Louis Green, Larry Johnson, Clyde Johnson and James Anthony Johnson.
Ruth leaves to cherish her fond memories three sons: Laurise Johnson, Decory Johnson and Demonte Johnson all of Rock Hill, SC; one grandson: Omari Malaikai Johnson of Rock Hill, Sc; one granddaughter: Tanaya Yvonne Johnson of Salisbury, NC; three sisters: Louise Johnson of Lexington, SC and Theresa Johnson-Baylor and Josephine Johnson-Mitchell both of Orangeburg, SC; one uncle: Clinton Green of New York and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends that will miss her dearly.

 

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Friday, April 23,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home at 2:00pm until 7:00pm.

A graveside service will be held on Saturday, April 24,2021 at St. Stephens United Methodist Church Cemetery 4500 North Rd. Orangeburg,SC 29118 beginning at 11:00am. In the event of inclement weather the service will be moved to Glover's Funeral Home Chapel. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
