Robert Dwight Jamison, 87 of Orangeburg, SC left his earthly home on April 11,2024 after an extended illness. Bob as he was commonly known, transitioned at home with his wife Mary. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.
Robert D. Jamison was born February 21,1937 to the late Albert Jamison and Almeta Smiley Gaffney of Orangeburg. Bob attended the public schools of Orangeburg and graduated from Wilkinson High School (Class of 1956). Bob briefly attended South Carolina State University before entering the Army (R.A.Infantry). He later transferred to the US Army Reserves in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Bob eventually left the Army to join the National Guard in Brooklyn, New York. Bob relocated to South Carolina and transferred to the National Guard in Bamberg, SC.
Bob met and married the love of his life Mary A. Lewis in November of 1964 in Bronx, NY. To this union Bob and Mary had three daughters: Robin, Deirdre and Kari. Bob also had one son: Frederick.
After leaving the Army, Bob worked for General Motors Chevrolet in Tarrytown, NY. He then went to be employed by the New York City Transit Authority where he was a bus driver from 1968 until 1988. After retiring from the NYC Transit Authority, Bob relocated back to Orangeburg, South Carolina.
After returning to South Carolina Bob took a position at the Orangeburg County Detention Center from where he would officially retire.
During Bob’s life he enjoyed Boating, fishing and riding his motorcycle. He was a member of the VFW 8166, an avid supporter of the Touchdown Club and numerous organizations. He was a lifelong member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cordova, SC.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his wife of 60 years Mary A. Jamison of Orangeburg, SC; three daughters: Robin Jamison-Moorer of Dumfries, VA, Deirdre Jamison of Orangeburg, SC and Kari Jamison of Mobile, Al; one son: Frederick Jamison of Ca; three grandchildren: Ariana, Nyilah and Robert; two sisters: Mary Jamison-Jones of Orangeburg, SC and Cassandra (Joseph) Brown of Dale City, VA ; two brothers-in-law: Reverend David A. Lewis and Charles Lewis; one sister-in-law: Gwendolyn Lewis and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends that will miss him dearly.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Sunday, April 21,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Monday, April 22,2024 at Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulation.
