Permon Walter Smith, Jr.

Permon Walter Smith Jr. was born February 4, 1943 in Bowman, SC. He was the 8th of 9 children born to the late Permon W. Smith and the late Pauline S. (Glover) Smith. On Wednesday July 28, 2021 at 10:06 am, Permon ended his long battle with Leukemia and answered the Heavenly Fathers call to come home.

In 1960, he graduated from Lockett High School, Branchville, SC. Soon after graduation, he relocated to Jersey City, NJ. It was here he later married his high school sweetheart, Clara Garvin Smith. To that union, three beautiful children were born, Derek Lamont, Kecia Kathleen (Sturdivant), Denise Michelle.

His career spanned for over 50 years starting with Western Electric of Kearney, NJ, he was then relocated to Allentown, PA. where he retired after over 50 years of faithful service.

While in New Jersey he attended the Monumental Baptist Church with his family.

Permon was mechanically inclined, he was his familie’s “Mr. Fixit”. If it was broke, he would fix it, Like his older brother the late Roger W. Smith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his two brothers, James & Roger, two sisters Minnie & Betty Jean.

Left to mourn his passing, his loving wife Clara Smith of Whitehall, Pa, his children Derek of Fresno, Tx, Kecia Sturdivant (Elroy), of Allentown, PA & Denise Michelle of Whitehall, PA.
His pride and Joy, Grandchildren, Dominique, Marques Sturdivant, Issac & Langston Hollomon. Siblings, Rev. Janine Mitchell, Bowman, SC , Myrtle Benony, Columbia, SC, Shirley Ford, Orangeburg, SC, Johnnie Mae Barber, Columbia, SC. As well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Friday, August 6,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 7:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, August 7,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
