Nettie C. Brooks Obituary

Sunday Morning, April 27,2025 song bird Nettie Clay Brooks heard music above her head and knew there was a heaven somewhere. Then she sung her notes tuning her voice while taking flight to join the Heavenly choir, where the angels who were directed by Gabriel were for her work on earth was completed.
Nettie Clay Mays Brooks, affectionately known as “Moochie”, “Dunt”, “Chep”, but mostly “Sugar Pie” was born on December 5,1927 on the Wire Road in Branchville, SC to the late Anderson Hudson and Nettie Whaley Mays. In her youthful days she met the love of her life, Jake D. Robinson. She conceived her precious gift from God, a daughter Gladys Robinson. However, her soulmate was deployed to the military before the birth of their daughter.
After several attempts to let him know of the daughter’s birth, not even knowing if he was still alive Nettie embraced parenthood alone. Later she met and married the late Elick Brooks.
Being reared in a God fearing home she joined Pineville United Methodist Church, Bowman, SC. Later she migrated to Jersey City, New Jersey she joined Mt. Pisgah AME Church and then Corinthians Baptist Church. After serving many years there, she returned home and reunited herself to Pineville United Methodist Church. Once returning she served in many capacities were, president of Pineville’s Senior Choir, member of the United Methodist Women and Christian Counsel of Ministry Board. But her most sacred duty was the Mother of Pineville United Methodist Church.
Nettie always had a strong passion for baking biscuits and jelly/pound cakes, babysitting, fishing, flowerpot gardening, and singing Zion songs. These hobbies she did as often as she could.
Nettie was never a stranger to anyone. Once you meet her you instantly fell in love. Truly to know her was to love her. When departing from her you had to have a care package whether it be food or song from her heart. She will forever leave an impact on everyone. Her steps were always order by God’s word with a song of praise from her heart. She now joins her siblings who have gone on before, Eula Raysor, Vernell Washington, Hycena Moody, Elease Robinson, James Wesly, Jimmy Mays and Jesse Albert Mays.
She leaves to tell her legacy: a devoted and loving daughter of the home Gladys (Booker T.) Robinson; two grandchildren Jacqueline (Walter) Cohen of Walterboro, SC and Jumont Robinson of Orangeburg, SC; one great-grandchild Zyniyah D. Robinson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; one sister Etta Scott of Orangeburg, SC; two brothers Clarence Mays and John (Sally) Mays both of Bowman, SC; godsons Thomas G. (Jay) Johnson and Roger Mays as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, godchildren and other relatives and friends.
