Nancy Hall Mays Obituary

Nancy Hall Mays entered eternal rest at The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg during the early morning hours on December 8, 2018. She was born on September 3, 1944 in Eutawville, SC to the late Martha “Noodie” High.

 

Nancy attended the public schools of Roberts High in Holly Hill, SC. She continued her studies at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College where she earned several certifications. Nancy was employed by Efka Fabrics in Bayonne, NJ for several years prior to relocating back to South Carolina. She began working at EG&G Rotron until their closing. She later became a homemaker and caretaker for the many children in the family and community.

 

At an early age, Nancy began her spiritual walk at Silas United Methodist Church in Eutawville, SC, but transferred her membership to Pineville United Methodist Church and worked faithfully in various capacities. She served on the Usher Board, Gospel Choir, YMC and United Methodist Women.

 

On December 10, 1966, Nancy married her husband, Clarence Hudson Mays in Bayonne, NJ and relocated to Bowman, SC in 1975 to rear their children. Nancy was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, caretaker, neighbor, and friend. With her caring and generous personality, she touched the hearts of many in her own special way. She was also known by many to be witty, outspoken, and passionate about anything and everything she was involved in.

 

Left to cherish her memories are her beloved husband of 52 years, Clarence H. Mays, six children; Mattie Lou Hall, Bayonne, NJ; Kenneth Morgan, Orangeburg, SC; Angela (Lee) Brown, Williston, SC; Bruce (Natasha) Mays, Houston, TX; Darren (Lisa) Mays, Middletown, NY; Keywhana (Dale) Allen, Horizon City, TX; fourteen (14) grandchildren; Shawnqeuia Hall, Terence Hall, Allyson Christopher, Minnitta Robinson, Christopher Gadson, Miyah Mays, Anansia (Sequoyah) Summers, McKelvey Prince, Da’Quwam Mays, Barbara Mays, Mikayla Mays, Branden Mays, Hayden Mays, and Ethan V. Allen; nine (9) great-grandchildren; four sisters; Flora Dingle, Roxbury, MA; Martha Hall, Irvington, NJ; Iris Townes, Bayonne, NJ; Charlotte Ann Robinson, Moncks Corner, SC; one brother; Robert (Dorothy) Hall, Jersey City, NJ; three brothers-in-law; Jimmy (Jetty) Mays; John (Sally) Mays; Jesse Mays, all of Bowman, SC; five sisters-in law; Pearlie Bennett, Cassat, SC; Janie Hall, Bayonne, NJ, Etta (James) Scott, Orangeburg, SC, Nettie Brooks, Orangeburg, SC; and Elease (Shellie) Robinson, Bowman, SC.

 

Also left to cherish her memories are a host of special nieces and loving nephews, relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha “Noodie” High, two brothers; Nathaniel Hall, Sr and George Hall; two sisters-in-law, Vernell (Willie) Washington and Hycena (Randolph) Haughton.
