On Sunday, August 24, 2025, in Columbia, South Carolina, our beloved Maxine Moody
Jones peacefully departed this life.
Born on December 2, 1964, at Nassau Medical Center in East Meadow, New York, she was the daughter of Josephine Taylor and the late William Moody. Maxine was raised in Westbury, New York, where she graduated from Westbury High School in 1983.
Throughout her life, Maxine wore many hats—working as a medical assistant, CNA, and in customer service—but her greatest calling was always service to others. While living in New York, she volunteered at The Glory House, where she poured out her time, wisdom, and compassion to women facing difficult seasons. To many, she was a lifeline—always giving, always lifting, always loving.
Maxine was united in marriage to the late Steven Jones. Though their union bore no children, her love overflowed to her nieces, nephews, family, and friends. Her devotion was steadfast, and her role in their lives was marked by joy, loyalty, and deep affection.
In later years, Maxine made her home in Orangeburg, South Carolina, where she became a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. She also found joy and fellowship within her community at Home Inn, where she participated in activities that brought both purpose and companionship.
Those who knew Maxine will remember her as a woman who always placed others before herself. Her compassion knew no bounds, and her generosity touched everyone she encountered. She lived as a testimony of kindness, selflessness, and quiet strength—a woman with a heart of gold and a spirit that could never be dimmed.
Though her earthly journey has ended, her impact will continue to echo in the lives of all who loved her. Her hands, once busy serving, are now at rest; her heart, once poured out so freely, now beats in eternity.
Maxine was preceded in transition by her husband, Steven Jones; her father, William Moody; her sister and brother-in-law, Patricia and Michael Cobbs; her grandparents; and her nephew, William D. Moody.
She leaves to cherish her memory: her loving mother and bonus father, Josephine and Herbert Cobbs of Orangeburg, SC; four siblings—Deanna Moody (Donald), Gregory Cobbs, Lisa Johnson (Curtis), and William Lee Moody (Evelyn); seven nephews, one niece, three great-nieces, seven great-nephews, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will forever hold her close in their hearts.
