Mary Ann Sumpter McMillon

November 28, 1963 ~ September 14, 2019 (age 55)

A Time to be Born…
On November 28 th , 1963, the late Mrs. Minnie Lee Sumpter and the late Mr. Wilbert
Sumpter were blessed with a beautiful baby girl, Mary Ann Sumpter. Mary Ann was the
baby girl of nine children born to Mr. and Mrs. Sumpter. One sibling preceded her in
death Mr. Grant Sumpter.
A Time to Love…
Love filled the air as two became one when Mary Ann and Terry McMillon were united
in holy matrimony on September 26, 2001. This union was blessed with two children:
Terry Jr., and Ariel.
A Time to Live…
Mary Ann attended the public schools of Orangeburg County and was a 1981 graduate of
Bowman High School, home of the Mighty Mohawks!. She saw a need to further her
education and attended Claflin University, where she received her Bachelor of Arts
degree in Sociology/Criminal Justice and a certificate of high achievement in 1987. She
then went on to Webster University and received her Master of Arts degree in Counseling
in 1996. Mary was no stranger to hard work, as she always worked hard to provide for
her family. Her zest for working was evident as she worked as a counselor with the South
Carolina Department of Mental Health for eleven years, an After Market sales associate
within the marketing division of Jones Ford for five years, A production Associate with
Alcoa for five years and finally the past thirteen years she served as a Production
Associate with Robert Bosch, LLC until her health declined. Mary Ann was able to
connect with many coworkers and friends, despite her innate ability to be intensely
private. Her concern for others and need to impart a kind word to all far outweighed her
need to be private-that was “Mary Ann!” Mary was a loving member of Joshua Baptist
Church, where she faithfully worshipped until her health failed. Mary had several
affiliations that included but were not limited to: National Association of Blacks in
Criminal Justice, Claflin University Alumni Association, and the Webster University
Alumni Association.
