Mary Clair Simpson Nelson Jones was called to eternal rest on Tuesday, September 2, 2025 after a brief illness at the Oaks Post Acute Care. She was the daughter of the late Willis and Florence Simpson. She was born March 16, 1932 in Cope, South Carolina where she attended school and received her education.
At an early age she joined Emmanuel AME Church which was her family church. She later joined The Church of God Which He Has purchased with His Own Blood, where she was a faithful member and most recently North Orangeburg United Methodist Church.
Mary was employed at Orangeburg Pecan factory for many years and also worked at Edwards Dept. Store for many years as a hard worker. She loved working in the yard planting flower. She loved going shopping and most of all going to church and giving God the Highest Praise. She loved singing, she was a member of the Celebration Mass Choir under the direction of Dr. Rosemary Griffin.
Very humble, kind, loving person everyone around her refer to her as Momma Mary. Being the kind Christian person she was, you can always find her smiling lending a helping hand or giving the best advice.
Mary proceeded in death by her two brothers Willie and Enoch; two sisters Louiise and Wilhemia.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memories and cherished times to her devoted and caring daughter Mary Ann Nelson Williams Gladden, one blessed and well loved grandson Christopher Samuel Williams, two great-grandsons Little Chris and Jalen, and a host of other special great-grands as well, two sisters Sarah (Johnny) Milhouse and Ella Mae James and a host of special nieces, nephews, family and friends that she loved dearly.
The service will proceed as follows;
The public viewing will be held on Thursday, September 4,2025 at Glover's Funeral home from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Friday, September 5,2025 at Glover's Funeral Home Chapel 2562 Charleston Highway Orangeburg, SC 29115 beginning at 10:00am.
