Mary Eugenia Paul Byrd was born on February 14, 1946, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, to the late Ethel Orr Paul and Thomas Paul Sr. She was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County, where she developed the foundation of strength, kindness, and resilience that would define her life.
Mary later moved to Yonkers, New York, where she worked diligently throughout the early 1970s. After returning home to South Carolina, she continued her life of service and dedication as a Dietary Aide with School District Five. She faithfully served for 25 years and 11 months before retiring on February 15, 2001, leaving behind a legacy of hard work, compassion, and quiet excellence.
Mary’s life was centered around love—love for her family, her friends, and all who were blessed to know her. She carried a gentle spirit, a giving heart, and a steady presence that brought comfort to many.
She leaves to cherish her memory: Son: Mack Darrell Paul (Elandres Paul), Columbia, SC; Siblings:Sandra Miller (Emanuel Miller Jr.), Orangeburg, SC and Thomas Paul, Orangeburg, SC.
Grandchildren: Lakeisha Phillips (William Donald Phillips), Charlotte, NC; Michael Paul, Columbia, SC; Sierra Paul, Columbia, SC. Great‑grandchildren: Donald William Phillips II, Lawson Donald Phillips, Carrington Paul, Madison Jenkins. A Special Friend: Harrylee Fogle. Along with a host of other relatives and friends.
Mary’s life was a testament to quiet strength, unwavering love, and the beauty of a life well lived. Her memory will continue to shine through the generations she leaves behind.

The service will proceed as follows: 

The viewing will be held on Saturday, May 23,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 5:00pm. 

The funeral will be held on Sunday, May 24,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 1:30pm.
