Mary Lou Banks, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Jannie Lou Bookard Reed, was born on January 24, 1965, in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She entered into eternal rest on Sunday, April 26, 2026, at her residence.

Mary was educated in the public schools of Bowman, South Carolina. Throughout her life, she was employed by several organizations, most recently serving as a dedicated manager at Dairy O until her health declined. Mary found great joy in cooking and hosting family gatherings, where her warmth and vibrant personality brought people together. Known for her quick wit and infectious laughter, she had a remarkable ability to uplift others and was truly the life of every gathering.

Mary was preceded in death by her beloved son, Jervey Lamont Johnson, and her brother, John H. Reed.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving children: Enderia Reed, William Johnson, Cory Johnson, and Randall Summers, all of Orangeburg, South Carolina; her devoted fiancée, Lurlis James of Orangeburg, South Carolina; two sisters, Carolyn (Jessie) Johnson of Rowesville, South Carolina, and Barbara Reed of Columbia, South Carolina; three brothers, Nathaniel Reed of Rowesville, South Carolina, Anthony Reed of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and Michael (Fateshia) Reed of Jacksonville, Florida; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.

Mary possessed a remarkable ability to bring comfort and joy to others, even during her most difficult moments. She was truly a gift to all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her. May the life she lived and the strength she demonstrated in her fight inspire us to honor her memory by living with the same grace, compassion, and resilience she exemplified.
