MARTHA W. EDEN
Martha W. Eden, 84, of James Island, South Caroline, entered into
eternal rest on Monday, June 22, 2026, at the Life Care Center of
Charleston.
Born on February 22, 1942, to Samuel and Sarah Washington,
Martha grew up as the youngest daughter of nine siblings. She
grew up on James Island and graduated from W. Gresham Meggett
HS, Class of 1960. She went on to earn her Associate Degree in
Criminal Justice from Trident Technical College.
Martha's work experience spanned over 40+ years, combined as a
top salesperson at Palmetto Ford Dealership and Parking Attendant
/ Cancer Ward Volunteer at the Medical University of South
Caroline. Outside of work, one of Martha's greatest love was
sewing for her family, friends, church members, her children and
grandchildren. Martha passionately loved serving as a deacon,
visiting the sick and singing in the choir at St. James Presbyterian
Church USA.
If you knew Martha, you know that she had never met a stranger.
She took care of family members when they called for her support.
She fed a multitude of people from the folks in the church, the
neighborhood and all of her children's friends at home and away.
Martha was most famous for her delicious sweet potato pies and
okra soup. More importantly, she loved to garden, fish, crab and
shrimp.
Martha is survived by her three children, (Matthew), (Wendy) and
(Kevin); four grandchildren (Brian), (Brittany), (Kaivon), and
(Jordyn); three great-grandchildren, (Jamila), (Mi'anna), and
(Kaiden); her three brothers, (Samuel), (George), (Leon) and
(Catheleen). She leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by Samuel and Sarah Washington, her
parents; her five sisters, (Mary), (Janie), (Rose), (Stella) and
(Margaret).
