Margaret Parler was born in Orangeburg, South Carolina on June 16, 1937, to Janie Thompson Fells and Arthur Fells. She made her transition on August 26, 2023. A graduate of Wilkinson High School, Margaret moved to Harlem, NY in 1967. While in New York, she worked for the Sheraton Hotel for many years in the housekeeping department. After her tenure at the Sheraton, she moved to Jersey City, New Jersey where she was a hard-working volunteer at the St.Patrick School for twenty years.
Her husband, Gus Parler, Jr. (deceased) was her loving partner of sixty-one years.
A woman of strong faith, she was a member of the Williams Chapel AME Church in Orangeburg, S.C. and later joined Salem Baptist Church in NJ. Margaret returned to Orangeburg, SC in 2009, where she resided until she went home to the Lord. She loved to cook and was always happy to welcome family and friends to her home. Her hobbies included doing crossword and word search puzzles. She enjoyed watching shows on the Hallmark, Food Network Channels and listening to her favorite gospel songs.
Preceding Margaret's passing are her siblings: Hercules Thompson, Walter Fells, Alphonso Fells, and Queen Esther Fells. Children: Leroy Fells, RonaldParler, Marilyn Parler, and Gus Parler, III.
Margaret is survived by her sister, Helen Fells, Children: Donald Parler (Chareese), Theresa Dingle (Alvin), Dwayne Parler, adopted daughter, Cheryl Lewis. Grandchildren: Gregory, Dana, Danielle, Cheyenne, Jamar, Jasmine, Marilyn, Nyelle, Shanae, Adriana, Darrius, Damon, and two adopted grandchildren: Jasmine and Jada. Great-Grandchildren: Janaisha, Jada, Jaylen, Jaxson, Dejah, Nasir, Aniyah, Kymani, and Phenix. Daughters-in-law; Amy Parler, Marcel Gresham. She also leaves a host of nieces and nephews, cousins, extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Friday, September 8,2023 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 7:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, September 9,2023 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
