Madaline Harris Sewer was the oldest child of Henry G. Harris, Sr. and Mary (Moore) Harris of Sanford, North Carolina. She was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on August 23, 1944. She departed this life in the afternoon of June 5, 2020, at home in Orangeburg, South.
When Madaline was about three years old, the family left Philadelphia and moved to Greensboro, North Carolina, where they stayed until she was 8 yrs. At which time the family relocated to Sanford, North Carolina. She attended the W.B. Wicker School Elementary and High School in Sanford, until graduating with the class of 1962. After graduation from high school, she went on to continue her education at Bennett College in Greensboro, NC. Upon completion of her college experience she moved to St. John, United States Virgin Islands, where she worked as a classroom teacher, then advancing to the level of principal, becoming loved and well known by many for her work in the school and the community.
She was the wife of Felix O. Sewer, Jr. (deceased), mother of two daughters: Marion Sewer (deceased) and Gwendolyn A. Sewer (Bernard) of Orangeburg, South Carolina; a grandson, Loredon Mitchum; two granddaughters; Zoe Singletary (5) and Marion Singletary (1). She was the oldest of two sisters; Charlotte Provost of Raleigh, NC; Thelma Sewer of Greensboro, NC; and a brother, Henry (Skip) (Theresa) Harris, Jr.(deceased); one niece: Catherine Provost of Fuquay Varina, NC; and three nephews: Marvin Sewer, Jr. (Nakesha) of Jonesboro, GA; Roy Provost, Jr. of New Mexico; and Eric Provost (Bettina) of Maintal, Germany. She also leaves to mourn a host of relatives and friends.
