“We have come together today at the call of death. Death to a Christian is moving out of this world into eternal daylight.” That is what Bro. Leonard Busby (73) did as he passed away peacefully at University Hospital in Newark, NJ, on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, after a brief illness.
Leonard was born on November 17, 1951, in Orangeburg County to the Late Mr. George Matthew and Mrs. Geneva Aaron Busby. He graduated from Bethune Memorial High School. Leonard relocated to Newark, NJ, immediately after high school where he utilized his skills learned from his father to become a self-made handy man as a roofer, plumber, and an all-around repairman.
Leonard married Commie in 1975 and they had five children, two sons and three daughters. Later, he was blessed with three more daughters. Following that, he and his current wife Florine, had one son and raised four other children as their own.
In addition to his father and mother, he was preceded in death by his sister Patricia Busby Carson, his brothers Matthew Busby and Woodrow Busby, his son Wayne, and daughter, Angela Shaw  (March 20, 2025). To continue his legacy, he leaves his loving wife, Florine, four sons, Tyrone, Terry, Calvin (Drusila), and Lamar all of New Jersey; seven daughters, Tonya Busby, Lorraine Busby, Amina Pell (Saadik), Latrice Nelson, Jazzine Nelson, Jasmine Townes, and Lisa Townes all of New Jersey; two brothers, Thomas Busby (Leslye) and Bernard Busby (twin) both of Orangeburg; two sisters, Dr. Abigail Busby-Webb of Sumter and Audrey Busby of Orangeburg; 21 grand children; 6 great grand children; a special niece, Shikirra of New Jersey; two special cousins, Jean Gibbs of Augusta, GA, and Mary Martin of Bronx, NY; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
“All the pain and grief are over, every restless tossing passed. I am now at peace forever, safely home in heaven at last.”

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Thursday, March 27,2025 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm. 

The funeral will be held on Friday, March 28,2025 at Antioch Baptist Church 7640 Charleston Hwy. Bowman, SC beginning at 12:00noon. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
