Life Reflections
Joshua Williams, son of the late Samuel E. Williams, Sr. and Liller Jamison Williams, was born October 20,1947 in Orangeburg, SC and departed this life after an extended illness on July 16, 2023 at MUSC-Orangeburg.
“Josh” was educated in the Orangeburg County public schools and graduated from Wilkinson High School in 1966. He also attended Denmark Area Trade where he received a diploma in Brick Masonry. He became a master builder and acquired enough skills to almost single-handedly build his forever three-bedroom, one and one-half-bath, two-car garage, ranch-style home on Haynes Street.
After he retired from brick masonry, he shared with his family that he always wanted to work at a funeral home. Not only was he successful in gaining employment at Glover’s Funeral Home, he also found a bonus family who welcomed, loved, adopted, cared for, and spoiled him rotten for more than a decade!
Josh was a lifelong and faithful member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church. He served as a Trustee, member of the Brotherhood Ministry, and was a more than willing helper at church cookouts.
Preceding him in death were his parents; a son, LaQuan Williams; 12 siblings—Ruth Livingston, Queen Esther Fernandis, John Williams, Edgar Williams, David Jamison, Samuel Williams, Jr., Sarah Amaker, Thomas Williams, James Williams, Dorothy Williams, George Williams and Marion Williams; and a special cousin and best friend, Joshua Johnson.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a son, Kevin (Sherrie) Williams; three grandchildren— Brittany (Ronald)Buckner, Ny’Asia Cleckley, and Serra Williams; a sister, Albertha Workman of Columbia, MD; a brother, Daniel (Patricia) Williams of Lone Star; three sisters-in-law—Bernice Williams of Bowie, MD; Annie Franklin and Lizzie Williams of Orangeburg, SC; two special nieces—Annette Jones and Emma (Henry) White who were his caregivers and considered his “sisters”; two special nephews, Ronald (Evelyn) Williams and Henry (Emma) White; a goddaughter, Shalena Williams; a bonus son, Anthony Hallmon; two bonus grandsons—Sequoya Lee and JaQuan Goodwin; a bonus family—the Glover’s Funeral Home Staff; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.
