John W. Berry Obituary

Mr. John William Berry, Sr., son of the late Mr. Winston Pelzer and the late Mrs. Elsie Berry, was born on December 25, 1938. He went into eternal rest at home on November 1, 2022. During this transition he was surrounded by his loving family. He was affectionately known as “Pete” by his family and friends.

John (Pete) attended Bethune Memorial High School in Bowman, SC. He was an elite member of the Masonic brotherhood. At an early age he joined Antioch Baptist Church of Bowman, SC. He was a faithful member of Antioch and the church lawncare provider for many years until his health began to decline. He later attended Faith Ministry of Denmark, SC under the anointed leadership of Pastor Jerry Montgomery.

John (Pete) was a loving, affectionate soft-spoken man of many talents and skills. He worked in construction for over 30 years. He also was a truck driver for numerous years, as well as a proud entrepreneur. He was the Phenomenal DJ Rambo and the founding owner of Rambo Social Club. He was passionate about his family, music and making people happy. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, riding motorcycles, watching football, and telling jokes. His biggest hobby was being a Superfan of Tom Brady and the New England Patriots & recently the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

He had five siblings which preceded him in death. Three brothers: Mr. Henry Shuler Jr., Mr. Leroy Pelzer, and Mr. Charlie Pelzer. As well as Two sisters: Mrs. Elsie Mae Shuler and Mrs. Josephine Washington.

He leaves to cherish fond memories and carry on his legacy, his loving and devoted wife Mary L. Berry of the home. Seven wonderful children: Ms. Christine Haynes of Bowman, SC. Mr. John William Berry, Jr. (Devyn) of Bridgeton, New Jersey, Mr. John William Berry, Jr. (Nicole) of Florence, SC, Mrs. Connie (David) Riggleman of Boynton Beach, FL, Mrs. LaShawn (Antionio) Jones of Cordova, SC, Mrs. Denise (Earl) Shy of New Bern, NC, Mr. Kendall Lockard of Orangeburg, SC. Four caring stepchildren: Rev. Jerry (Priscilla) Montgomery, Ms.

Ruby King, and Mr. Kirkland Montgomery all of Bowman, SC, Mr. Tony Montgomery of Lynchburg, VA. Two brothers: Mr. Wilford (Linda) Pelzer of Manhattan, NY. Mr. Lee Cooper (Alfreda) Pelzer of Washington, DC. Four sisters: Mrs. Joann (Marvin) Mitchell of Mebane, NC, Mrs. Rosa (William) Washington of District Heights, Maryland, Mrs. Jessie Doye of Silver Springs, Maryland, and Mrs. Dora (William) Ellis of Santee, SC. One Aunt, Mrs. Dorothy Williams of Brooklyn, NY. Seven sisters-in-law: Mrs. Martha Green, of Rocky Mountain, NC, Mrs. Johnny Mae Martin, of Woodbridge VA, Mrs. Estelle (Benny) Oliver of Washington, DC, Mrs. Annie Montgomery of Columbia, SC, Mrs. Elouise (Howard) Peterson of Fort Washington, Maryland, Mrs. Bertha Myers, and Mrs. Gloria Myers both of Orangeburg, SC. Three brothers- in-law: Mr. Jacob Myers of Holly Hill, SC, Mr. Clifford Myers of the home, and Mr. Leroy

Myers of Washington, DC. Thirty-One Grandchildren and Seventeen great grands, and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

 

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Saturday, November 5,2022 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Sunday, November 6,2022 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 2:00pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19  rules and  regulations.
