Jimmy Rogers Mays Obituary

Jimmy Rogers Mays was born on December 23, 1946 in Orangeburg County to the late Mr. Anderson Hudson Mays and Mrs. Minnie Garvin Mays. He was called to eternal rest on Wednesday, January 15, 2025.


Jimmy was a member of Pineville United Methodist Church, where he served on the Finance Committee and Trustee Committee. Jimmy was also a part of the Pineville United Methodist Male Chorus and a member at Lodge Church Organization.


He attended the public school of Orangeburg County. Graduating from Bethune Memorial High School with the class of 1966. He went on to attend a Technical College in Columbia, SC, where he received a certifcation in Brick Mason. Jimmy entered the workforce at Santee Cement Camer, Star Redi Mix, Cotton Mill, Floyd Daniels, drove for a Private Owner, also Mr. Ernest Carter, and Bowman Gin Trucking. He retired from Bowman Gin in 2024 after 37 years.


Once he retired, he enjoyed life by spending quality time with his family, watching boxing, attending church and helping others. Jimmy will always be remembered for his vibrant smile, kind heart, and loving soul. He was the true defnition of a great husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.


Jimmy was blessed and united to the former Jetta B. Mays with 58 years of marriage, four daughters, and two sons.


Jimmy was proceeded in death by his loving parents: Mr. Anderson Hudson Mays and Mrs. Minnie Garvin Mays, two daughters: Avril Lawanda Mays and Latonia Vynetta Mays-Brown, one son: Rodney Lorenzo Mays, three sisters: Hycena Moody, Vernell Washington and Elease Mays Robinson and one brother: Jessie “Albert” Mays.


Left to treasure his fond memories a loving wife: Jetty B. Mays, two daughters: Sandra (Kevin) Austin and Mary Mays both of Bowman, SC, a son: Timothy Mays of Bowman, SC, a special daughter: Avril La’Wanda Mays, a special son: Selephia Demetrious Bradley, 8 grandchildren: Tresmon Mays, Phatema Simpson, Devin Austin, Shayna Dantzler, Nykeia Brown, Zephorah Jamison, Destiny Austin and Robert Lee Jamison, Jr., two brothers: John (Sally) Mays and Clarence Mays, two sisters: Nettie Brooks and Etta Scott, 13 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.


The service will proceed as follows:


The viewing will be held on Thursday, January 23,2025 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.


The funeral will be held on Friday, January 24,2025 at Pineville United Methodist Church 1808 Wintercreek Rd. Bowman, SC 29018 beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
