Jeremiah Jamison, Sr. Obituary

Jeremiah Jamison, Sr., affectionally known as “JJ or Jerry” was born on August 16, 1932 to Mrs. Minnie Green.  He was raised in the home of his aunt and uncle, Beatrice and Lonnie Seabrook. Jerry departed this life while residing at Pruitt Health—Orangeburg on Sunday, January 26, 2020.

Jerry accepted Christ at an early age at Central United Methodist Church in Rowesville, South Carolina where he served as a faithful lay leader, teaching Sunday School, and singing in the choir.

Jerry was educated in the public-school system of Orangeburg and graduated from Wilkinson High School.  Shortly after graduating from high school, he served in the United States Air Force.  After his honorable discharge from the Air Force, Jerry was employed at the local Hygrade plant for many years.  His thirst for knowledge and learning led him to acquire his CDL, life insurance, and DJ/broadcaster licenses. To acquire computer skills, he attended classes at the local technical college and high school.

Jerry’s work history also included Pilgrim Life Insurance, Life of Georgia Insurance, Crestlawn/Belleville Memorial Gardens, and Glover’s Funeral Home. He also worked as a charter bus driver and long-haul truck driver.

As a young man Jerry loved singing and was a member of a gospel quartet group. He later used his love for music and worked as a DJ/broadcaster for WQKI and WPJK Radio stations. Jerry enjoyed his many employment opportunities but still felt something was missing and channeled his knowledge and work experiences into entrepreneurial businesses such as Jays Record Store, Jeremiah Jamison Insurance Agency and Jays Chartering Bus Service.

Jerry loved his Rowesville community and served on the local City Council and as Mayor Pro Tem.  As a pastime, he enjoyed working in his garden.

Jerry leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 38 years, Dorothy S. Jamison; seven children: Jeremiah Jamison, Jr., Virgil Mark Jamison, Anna Teresa Jamison, Cecil Fitzgerald Jamison, Dianne S. (James) Campbell, Maricie S. McDaniel, Matthew Sanders; 16 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren (Joshua Thomas raised in the home), and a host of family members and friends.
