February 21, 1932 ~ December 20, 2023 (age 91) 91 Years Old
Minister James Simpson departed this life on December 20th, 2023, at MUSC hospital in Orangeburg. He was born on February 21, 1932, in Orangeburg SC to John and Rebecca Myers Simpson.
At an early age minister Simpson received Christ into his life and became a great disciple for God’s kingdom. He attended Emmanuel AME church for many years, but transferred his membership to Gethsemane Baptist Church where he remained a member until his passing.
Minister Simpson was educated in the Orangeburg County school system and continued his schooling in professional painting. He served in the US Army with an honorably discharged.
After serving in the army, he moved to Brooklyn NY where he met his lovely wife Emma Lee Dixon. From this union they had two children, Danny and Christine. However, he was predeceased by his daughter, Christine Simpson in 2021. He was employed by Henderson and Webb construction company in Maryland where he retired and moved back to South Carolina.
Minister Simpson enjoyed fishing with his son, gardening and watching baseball games on television. He loved his family and enjoyed doing things together.
Moreover, he loved the Lord with all his heart, mind, and soul. He enjoyed reading the bible regularly. He served faithfully at Gethsemane as a minister until his ailing health prohibited him from doing so. He faithfully visited and prayed for the sick in the hospitals and in the homes of many.
He was predeceased by his daughter Christine Simpson, three brothers, Edward, John (Bubba), Walter Simpson. Three sisters, Fairey and Nadine Simpson, and Almeda Johnson (Frank).
He is survived by his wife of 60 years Emma Simpson, his son Danny Simpson, godson Jovan Paige, spiritual daughter Alice Ennals, adopted grands Chris and Brian Ennals and Juan Still. Five sisters in laws’ Mildred (Willie Joe) Paige Marion SC, Shirley Hughes Marion SC, Mary (Melton) Rowell Marion SC, Bertha Dixon Marion SC, Mattie Dixon Washinton DC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Friday, December 29,2023 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 2:00pm until 6:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 30,2023 at Gethsemane Baptist Church beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
