James Shuler Obituary

JAMES ARTHUR SHULER better known to some as “Lockie” was the son of the late James Ernest Shuler and the late Ella Mae Bookhardt- Shuler. He was born on October 19, 1947 in Calhoun County. He tragically departed this life on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at the age of 74. As he lie down on the road, instantly pain escaped his body as he closed his eyes and his Spirit went on to be with the Lord.
As a youth he was brought up in the church serving the Lord and he joined the Seventh Day Adventist Church currently named Christ Is The Answer in Orangeburg, SC. Received his spiritual education, upbringing and work ethics in his heart through Jesus and the church. He knew and he shared the word of God, was kind-hearted, like to tell jokes and keep people laughing.
He graduated in 1966 from Wilkinson High School in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Shortly after graduation Uncle Sam said, “I want you!” and he was drafted in the United States Army in February 9, 1967. He served faithfully until his expiration of service in February 7, 1969. While in the Army he received many medals, badges and awards. To list a few – the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/60 Devise. Combat Infantryman Badge, Two Overseas Service Bars, Sharpshooter metal rifle. His education and training completed were listed as Code of Conduct, Geneva Conv, Mil Justice and CBR and TNG. After all his hard work he received an Honorable Discharge from the Army.
He furthered his education by attending Calhoun-Orangeburg Technical College in his life-long profession as a Mason. He graduated at the top of his class in 1975 as a certified Mason. After graduating from O-C Tech he pursued many job opportunities in his professional career. These job led him into owning his own Masonry business in private properties and real estate. He built his own home and other properties.
After many years being single he decided to settle down. He met the love of his life Jacqueline Boyd-Shuler. They married and after many years of togetherness is now currently dissolution. From that union one son was born, James Arthur Shuler, Jr. affectionately called “Jimmy”.
Loving and fond memories will be cherished by his family; James Arthur, Jr. (Jimmy), son of the home, Orangeburg, SC; Sonia Fridie-Shumate (daughter) of Maryland, Tyris R. Tucker (son) of Orangeburg, SC; four sisters, Katherine- Murphy, Earnestine Shuler-Fairey, (deceased), Ella A Fludd, all of Orangeburg, SC; Susie Brunson of St. Matthews, SC (stepsister); one brother-in-law Leon Fludd of Orangeburg, SC; three grandchildren, Tyler Huggins, Jenesis Shuler, all of Orangeburg, Jefferson Shumate of Maryland and a host of wonderful, loving relatives, cousins, nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

 

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Friday, December 17,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home from 2:00pm until 7:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, December 18,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
