“Mrs. Marshall” as she was affectionately known was witty and never met a stranger. She devoted herself to family, education, community, and church while ensuring that her girls and her students experienced life to the fullest.
She graduated from Claflin University with a B.S. in Education and was a 7th grade educator at Blackville Hilda Middle School for thirty-one years. She loved teaching social studies, making her students memorize the South Carolina counties, and creating life experiences for her students (i.e. school trips to the Biltmore Estate in NC and Orangeburg Skating Rink). For many years after retirement, she was a substitute teacher for Orangeburg School District #4 and #5.
She was born on November 14, 1935, to the late Elliott and Adell Harrison. She served God faithfully and was a lifetime member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church where she served as Sunday School Superintendent.
She leaves to cherish her memories, four daughters: Jerlene of Orangeburg, SC; Cynthia of Newnan, Ga; Melissa of Columbia, SC; and Wendy of Norcross, Ga. One sister, Mary Dozier of Boston, Mass., Nine grandchildren (A’Shauntae’, Eric, Nye’Savien, SaiQon, Jamonie, Jamarreon, Jordan, Naji, and Morgan), seven great-grandchildren, two nieces (Linda, Donna) and two nephews (Charles Jr. (Michelle), James (Shauna)), special cousins (Gelene Dantzler, Sharon Briggman), special friend (Martha Felder of Blackville, SC), and hosts of family, extended family, and friends.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Friday, January 10,2025 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 11,2025 at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church 178 Woodolive Lane Orangeburg, SC 29115 beginning at 12:30pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regualtions.
