On March 9, 2021, God called his faithful servant home, Hurtis “Boogie” Rumph to eternal rest. Hurtis Rumph was born on September 26, 1966 to the late Mr. Timothy Rumph, Sr. and Mrs. Artie Lee “Chunk” Rumph.
At an early age, Hurtis attended Old Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Orangeburg, SC, singing in the choir. Later on in July 22, 2019, Hurtis became an ordained deacon, played drums and sang on the choir.
Hurtis attended the public schools in Orangeburg, SC. After attending schools in Orangeburg, Hurtis joined the Navy. After serving in the Navy, Hurtis worked at Food Lion in Elloree, SC as a fork lift driver for many years then later retired from Food Lion.
Hurtis was married to Jennifer Rumph and from that union they were blessed with four children: Shaqueena Rumph (Georgia), Shakira, Jamal Wilkerson (Orangeburg, SC) and Danielle Wilkerson (Walterboro, SC)
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Glory Ann and Marva Rumph and five brothers, Willie Lee, Marvin, Hubert, Eugene and Timothy Rumph, Jr.
Left to cherish his many fond memoris are his wife Jennifer Rumph; children; one sister, Artie M. Ellis of Orangeburg, SC; five brothers; Cornell Rumph of Sumpter, SC Trammell Rumph, of Spartanburg, SC, Pete (Diane) Rumph of Orangeburg, SC, Robert “Rocky” Rumph and Theodore Rumph, both of Orangeburg, SC and adopted son, Michael Frye and a host of loving nieces, nephews, other relatives, neighbors and friends.
Hurtis will always be remembered for his big personality, his love for wrestling, but most of all his love for family.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Sunday, March 14,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home at 1:00 until 6:00pm.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, March 15,2021 at Bethlehem United Methodist Church Cemetery 6815 Columbia Rd. St.Matthews,SC 29135.
