Hattie Mae Gay Hair transitioned to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 9, 2021, surrounded by her son and nurse aide at her residence in Orangeburg. She was born on July 25, 1950 in Orangeburg County, the sixth child of seven children of the late Willie (Shankie) Gay and Bertha Nancy Richardson Gay.
She was married to the late Clarence B. Hair. To this union one son Clarence T. Hair was born. Hattie loved her son and was a mother and father to him. She even taught him to drive a stick shift car. They enjoyed being with each other.
She was a proud graduate of G.W. Carver High School Class of 1966. She did further studies at Rice College in Columbia, SC, South Carolina State College, Orangeburg, SC, Denmark Technical College, Denmark, SC, Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, Orangeburg, SC, and was a Licensed Medical Office Assistant, Foster Parent, and Certified Nurse Assistant.
Hattie moved to Brooklyn, New York for several years and worked at Leaders Candy Factory. After returning to South Carolina, she worked as a a paraprofessional and bus driver at Carver Edisto Middle School. Hattie worked for 20 years at the Regional Medical Center as a Ward Secretary. Hattie worked as a Rosource Mother for 18 years. Hattie kept numerous foster kids. Hattie retired from the Family Health Center as a nurse/health care worker in the OBGYN section. Hattie also did private duty sitting at the Methodist Oaks.
Hattie was raised up in the church. She was a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church of Cordova for many years. She later became a member of Piney Grove Baptist Church and finally became a member of Beulah Refuge Tabernacle Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith Inc. She was dedicated and a true believer of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Hattie loved people wherever she went but she loved her Lord more. Hattie served in the church as an usher, a member of the choir, The Cannon Bridge Road Choir, The Willing Worker Hand in Hand, The Kitchen Committee, Sunday School Department and Pastor Aid Committee. She loved her church families, her pastors and all people she happened to meet. She was a stranger to few. Hattie enjoyed fishing, picnics, traveling and attending church. If you were talking about Jesus, she knew that Jesus was a friend of hers.
Hattie Mae Gay Hair was preceded in death by her brothers, Willie Gay, Jr., James McArthur Gay and sisters, Lucille Gay, Rebecca and Eartha Mae Gay Holman and two step-brothers, Henry Busby and Brunson Johnson.
She leaves to cherish one son, Clarence Tremaine Hair of the home and North Carolina; one sister, Mrs. Louise Gay Moultrie of Cope, SC; brothers-in-law, MacArthur (Armenia) Hair, Minister Charlie (Retha) Hair, Robert (Janie) Ryant and Albert Hair; sisters-in-law, Rosebud Gay, Eula Miller and Roberta Hair, six grandchildren, Jahkeem Tyquan Bonaparte, Christopher Hair, Reign Hair, Diamond Iyanna Hair, Davean Elijah Hair, Ahmir E. Jackson; Special friends, Shirley Bloome, Annetta Morrison, Janie Tyler, Judy Sistrunk, Minister Vandria Robinson (Willie), Jackie Haigler-Ellison, Minnie Haigler and many others, and a host of nieces and nephews, grand and great grand nieces and nephews. She was a mother to many.

The viewing will be held on Saturday, October 16,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home from 12:00 noon until 6:00pm.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 17,2021 at Beulah Refuge Tabernacle Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of Apostolic Faith, Inc. beginning at 2:00pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
