Gloria Hughes-Wright Obituary

Mrs. Gloria Ann Hughes Wright, daughter of the late Floyd Hughes Sr. and Sarah Keller Hughes was born on December 2, 1965 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She was called home to eternal rest and peace on Saturday, August 20, 2022 at Pruitt Health in Columbia, SC. Gloria was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg County and graduated from Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School. Throughout her years of being a CNA, She was gainfully employed at Jolly Acres Nursing Home before becoming disabled. Gloria was a member of Ebenezer A.M.E Church in Saint Matthews and accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. There she was a faithful member where she paid her tithes and offerings faithfully. In the community, Gloria was loved by many, she loved to cook, bake, and would love cooking battles between her children and other family members. Gloria was kind hearted and loved to laugh and if she didn’t agree with something you said or did, she had a way of letting you know it. Gloria would challenge her oldest son “Jacobia” the most when it came to cooking because her dad, the late Floyd Hughes molded him from operating heavy equipment to cooking. Several years ago, Jacobia was cooking stone stew, and went to the store to get other missing ingredients, when he found out his mom added additional season to the pot he was cooking, he trashed it for her doing so. Those two were known to bump heads in the kitchen. When Gloria started baking, she always used the middle child “Warren” as the guinea pig. He had to taste everything before everyone else because Warren would be honest enough to say if it was good or nasty, Jacobia would make her feel good by saying “Oh, something is missing, and Brionna would just look like something wasn’t right. After several cakes were burnt, Warren would be one to trash them without anyone else knowing he did so. The youngest of the crew Brionna whose baby boy “Haiden” is 5 months old started challenging her mother on the appropriate time to give her baby cereal in his milk, little did she know while asking her mom to babysit, she was already doing so without her knowing, they laughed about it when it was leaked out that she was doing so. Gloria was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Hughes and grandparents. Gloria leaves to cherish fond memories; her mother Sarah Hughes of the home; three children, Jacobia, Warren, Brionna, four brothers; Floyd (Sherry) Hughes of Greenville, John (Tracey) Hughes of Greenville, Allen (Sherry) Hughes of Orangeburg, and Russell Hughes of Orangeburg. Two sisters; Patricia Hughes, Cynthia (Late Robert) Johnson of Orangeburg, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.

To our mom, You sacrificed your life with one foot in the grave by giving birth to 3 wonderful children. You always told us how proud you were of us, and asked that we never make the same mistakes you’ve made. When you dedicated your life to Christ, you became new in him, and all you ever wanted was to be normal again.
