Gloria Collier Obituary

Mrs. Gloria Jean Collier was born on December 7, 1961, in Orangeburg, SC to the late Allen “Buck” Murray and Delphine Fersner. She entered eternal rest on Wednesday, August 25, 2021. 

Gloria was a 1981 graduate of Orangeburg-Wilkinson High School, received her Associate of Arts degree from Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College, and her Bachelor of Science degree from South Carolina State University.  Professionally, Gloria devoted 33 years of service to South Carolina State University as an Administrative Assistant in a variety of departments.  At the end of her career, Gloria was the Administrative Assistant to the Dean of the School of Business. 

At an early age, Gloria joined Warren Chapel Baptist Church.  She later joined Exodus Baptist Church where she served as the first Church Clerk. At the time of her passing, Gloria was a devoted member of Mount Sinai Missionary Baptist Church.  At Mt. Sinai, Gloria wore many hats including Church Clerk, Pastor’s Aide, and Vice President of the Missionary Society.  Gloria also served as the clerk of the Orangeburg Orthodox Baptist Association and was an active participant of the Women’s Baptist Educational and Missionary Convention of South Carolina.  

Gloria was preceded in death by her mother, Delphine Fersner, father, Allen “Buck” Murray, her paternal and maternal grandparents, and several paternal and maternal aunts, uncles, and cousins.

She leaves to cherish her devoted husband of 5 years, Owen (George) Collier (Orangeburg, SC); four children, Shakiya Drayton (Fort Pierce, FL), Quantasha Drayton (Columbia, SC), JaQuan Murray (Tallahassee, FL), and JaQuanna Murray (Itta Bena, MS); one brother, Steve Murray (Sandra Bickerstaff); one cousin raised in the home as a sister, Margaret Murray, Orangeburg, SC; Aunts Martha Helen Wolfe, Capital Heights, MD, Sally (Henry) Houser, Bowman, SC, Shirley (Van Scott) Glover, Orangeburg, SC, Betty Cokely, Orangeburg, SC, Patricia Johnson, Lancaster, SC, Emma Fersner, Stamford, CT, Beverly (Jackie) Thomas, Stamford, CT; Uncles Reverend Lonnie (Joan) Robinson, Willie (Marie) Murray, and Bobby Murray; two Aunts-in-law Theresa Robinson, Wyandanch, NY and Angie Robinson; three Brothers-in-law; four Sisters-in-law; three daughters through marriage, Latonya Wright, Kimily Wright, and Elizabeth Wright; A host of cousins, friends, and loved ones.

 

 

 

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Sunday, August 29,2021 at Glover's Funeral Home from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.

The funeral service will be held on Monday, August 30,2021 at Exodus Baptist Church beginning at 1:00pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
