Georgia Rowe Bush was born on November 24, 1934 in Orangeburg, South Carolina to Eugene and Wolltea Wallace Rowe. She graduated from Wilkinson High School in the 1950s and attended Claflin College in Orangeburg, South Carolina. At an early age, Georgia attended Mt. Calvary Baptist Church and served as a life-long member. She joined the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Pulpit Aide and served on this committee for a few years.
As a young adult, Georgia moved to Brooklyn, New York and worked various jobs throughout her young life. She worked as a Nurse Aide for New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai for 10 years. Georgia served and dedicated many hours as a volunteer at Manhattan VA Hospital for 8 years. She joined the Order of Eastern Star of New York and became an active member of the New York Chapter.
In 1974, Georgia moved back home to help her family care for her mother Wolltea Wallace Rowe. In January 1978, Georgia was joined in holy matrimony to Augustus Bush. Many years later she worked at Jolly Acres Nursing Home as a Laundry Aide.
Georgia was very dedicated to her family. She treasured each of us and loved her family in her own special way. She especially loved her role as “Auntie” and would do whatever it took to make sure that her family was taken care of. So many people didn’t truly understand her and some never will, but to our family, she was the foundation of love and strength. She was an exceptional example of God’s goodness, mercy and favor. We thank God for giving us the opportunity to be a part of her life during her time here on earth.
Georgia passed away peacefully, and departed this life into eternal rest on June 15, 2020 from a brief illness.
Georgia is survived by her sister, Delores Rowe Davis; two nieces, Nicole Davis and Carla Davis Coulter; two great-nephews, Jordan Garvin and Caleb Ellisor; and a host of relatives and friends. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
