Evelyn Williams Obituary

Mrs. Evelyn J. Williams, a devoted Christian, mother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend, transitioned peacefully at MUSC Health – Orangeburg due to a brief illness.
She was born in Dillion, South Carolina to the late Reverend and Mrs. Leroy (Oless Redmond) Jackson, Sr. She was the youngest of five children.
She was educated in the public schools of Lake City, South Carolina and graduated from Carver High School (now Lake City High School) in 1963. She received her Bachelor of Science in Business Education from Allen University (Columbia, SC) and Master of Science in Business Education from South Carolina State College (now University) Orangeburg, SC.
She was an educator for twenty-two years in the following counties: Marion, Calhoun, and Orangeburg and retired from Orangeburg School District Five in 2015.
She met and married the love of her life, the late Deacon Woodrow P. Williams and from this union a daughter was born.
She joined Greater Saint James African Methodist Episcopal (AME) Church in Lake City, South Carolina and transferred membership to New Mount Zion Baptist Church in Orangeburg, South Carolina. She had forty-six years of membership and was a part of the following: the Busy Bee Club, Deaconess Ministry, Hazel F. Pierce/Victoria Scott Missionary Society, Soup Kitchen Committee, Sunday School Women’s Class, Thursday Night Bible Study, and Vacation Bible School. She received the 1997 Senior Usher Board’s “Mother of the Year” award.
In the community, she was a member of the Brookdale Civic Community Association.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers, Mr. Leroy Jackson, Jr., Rev. David H. Jackson, Sr., and Rev. Isaac T. Jackson, and sister-in-law, Mrs. Vera Jackson Mathis.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving daughter/caregiver, Ms. Annie O. Williams of the home, brother, Mr. Nathaniel E. Jackson of Lake City, SC, sisters-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Monday, March 25,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 26,2024 at New Mt. Zion Baptist Church 1785 Amelia St. Orangeburg, SC 29115 beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
