Mr. Eugene Howard Dunning, affectionally known as “Pop Dunning”, was the son of Dorothy Govan Gladden and the late Mr. Willie and Emma Julia Dunning. He was born on November 19, 1949 in Orangeburg, South Carolina. Eugene was called to his final resting place to be with his father, the Lord Jesus Christ on August 4, 2020.
Eugene received his formal education in the public school system of Orangeburg County. He was a member of North Orangeburg United Methodist Church where he served faithfully on the Male Choir and the Usher Board until his health declined. He was a Master Mason, where he was a member of Bull Swamp Lodge 312, White Hall #9, Knights of Templar Commandry #8, Fred Simon Consistory #9, and Islam Shrine Temple #3. He was very instrumental in the Annual Sickle Cell Anemia Fundraising Initiative.
Throughout his life, he has held positions at Carolina Eastman, Westvaco, Walmart and Orangeburg School District Five, just to name a few.
Eugene was joined in holy matrimony to Jean Carolyn Brooks in 1969. Their union was blessed with two loving and dedicated sons, Craig and Jerome.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Arthur Govan; grandparents, Elijah and Emma Govan; three, brothers-in-law, Wilburt Brooks, George Ward and Willie Brooks, Jr.; one sister-in-law, Ernestine Brooks.
Eugene leaves to cherish loving memories: his devoted and loving wife of 51 years, Jean Carolyn Dunning; two sons, Craig (Heather McKune) Dunning and Jerome (Lillie) Dunning; grandchildren, Staff Sergeant Hakeem Dunning, Airman 1st Class Jyair Dunning, Alexis Dunning, Camrie Dunning, Demontray Bowman, Desmond Bowman and Tierra Bowman; great-grandchildren, Emery Dunning, Elijah Dunning, Zyla Horton, Logan Oliver, Brahkia Jenkins, Zyasia Jones, Tashyra Bowman and Demontray Bowman, Jr. and a dear love one, Ernestine Bowman; sisters, Linda Archie-Simmons, Barbara (Patrick) Heningburg and Debra Gladden; brothers, Charles Gladden, Bernard (Debora) Gladden, Harry Govan and John David Glover; uncle, Frank Govan; sisters-in-law, Emma (James) Lawrence, Martha Ward, Alice (Curtis) Brite, Palestine Brooks and Sarah Brooks; brothers-in-law, Robert Brooks, David Brooks, Curtis Brooks, Nathan (Ann) Brooks, Kevin Brooks, and Dean Brooks.
Eugene had a host of nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, extended family, church family, friends, neighbors, and so many more who cherished him dearly. To know him was to love him. He was truly our dear “Pop Dunning”.

The viewing will be held on Saturday, August 8,2020 at Glover's Funeral Home at 2:00pm until 7:00pm.
The service will be held on Sunday, August 9,2020 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 12:30pm. Services will be streamed live on our Facebook page Glover's Funeral Home of Orangeburg. All those attending must adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
