Mrs. Emma Louise Dunning Bodrick, born November 13, 1956 departed this life on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at The Oaks Post Acute after extended illness. Emma was born in Orangeburg, SC to the late Ed Peter Dunning Sr. and Wilhelmenia Haynes Dunning, both of whom preceded her in death.
One of many siblings, Emma was raised and grew up in Orangeburg, SC. She attended Wilkinson High School and received her GED diploma. She then went on to pursue and receive her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license. With a heart and passion for helping other vulnerable adults, she spent the next four decades working in nursing facilities, to include the former Edisto Convalescent Center and The Methodist Oaks. She served as a CNA, office assistant, scheduler and then ultimately promoted to human resources specialist. She retired in December 2022 after over 40 years of service in the medical field.
Emma loved music (both gospel and mainstream), dancing, and laughing with friends and family. She really enjoyed talking on the phone and playing her favorite puzzle games.
Her sense of humor was known by all who knew her – it was soothing and infectious. She always found the right words to say to make someone else feel better and never hesitated to place the needs of others ahead of her own.
Emma was lively, loving, compassionate, selfless - always making time for and encouraging others, generous, faithful, dutiful, dedicated to her life’s work and steadfast in her faith in God.
Emma was preceded in death by two brothers Ed Peter Dunning Jr. and Jim Gardner; three sisters Dorothy Dunning, Sarah Shumpert, and Mary Frances Dunning. Emma leaves to cherish her memories her husband Freeman Bodrick, her daughter and only child Menia (Donnell) Lee; one brother Thomas Dunn Sr.; three sisters Doris Dunn, Sheryl E. Dunning and Debbie M. Clemons; seven brothers in law Leonard (Sharon) Bodrick, COL. (Ret.) Morris (Mary) Bodrick, Rev. Reggie (Chyunita) Bodrick, Rev.
