Elizabeth Lee Obituary

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8 KJV
On Friday, October 17, 2025, Elizabeth “Sister” Govan Lee, was gently called home to be with the Lord. Elizabeth was born August 4, 1931 to Augustus and Elizabeth Govan.
She was raised by Joanna and Willie Govan. Elizabeth received her formal education at Ebenezer School in St. Matthews, SC. Early in life, she became a faithful, active member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church. Elizabeth was united in holy matrimony to the late Dewitt Lee on November 1,1950.
For all who knew her, Elizabeth was a strong good Christian woman. She was a kind and giving person. She was always willing to lend a listening ear when one was needed. Throughout her lifetime, she was not only a mother to her own children, but a village mother for many children including her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Elizabeth was a hard worker. She worked for many years for Ms. Corns. Later, until her retirement, she was employed at Ambler Industries in Orangeburg, SC.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband Dewitt Lee, her son Nelson Govan, a sister Alice Louise Gross, and her daughter Mary Francis McFadden.
Elizabeth leaves to cherish her memories one son, Melvin Lee of Orangeburg, SC; a daughter-in-law Annie Govan of Vallejo, CA; three sisters of Orangeburg, SC; six grandchildren, seven greatgrandchildren, three great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
