Earl Glenn Obituary

Earl Cliffert Glenn, affectionately known as "Man" to those who knew him best, passed away on March 10, 2024, at White Oak Manor of Charleston, following an extended illness. Born on May 29, 1950, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Earl was a product of the community around him and he embodied the spirit and warmth of his beloved hometown throughout his life.

Earl grew up in a blue collar family of limited means, alongside his brothers, Clarence Glenn, Jr., and John Oliver of Pennsylvania, and sister, Mary Brown of New York. However, despite never marrying, Earl's life was rich with love, particularly for his daughter and only child, Wilhelmenia ("Menia") D. Lee, who was the light of his life.

Earl was a man of simple pleasures and untapped talents. A tradesman and carpenter, he found satisfaction in the craft of building with his hands. Though his formal education concluded after grade school, Earl was a lifelong learner, always eager to explore new skills and ideas.

Earl was known for his hobbies which included riding his bicycle, dancing, singing, and spending time with friends. His unique sense of humor was infectious.   His spirit and determination remained unflinching, even in the face of his illness. He was a man of few (but select) words, knew what he liked and when, said what he meant and meant what he said. Earl "Man" Glenn lived his life how he wanted to live and he transitioned “his way”.

Preceded in death by his brother Clarence Glenn, Jr., his father Clarence Glenn, Sr., and his mother Lurl Fogle, Earl leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, resilience, and individuality. His memory will be cherished and kept alive by his daughter (Menia), special son-in-law (Donnell Lee), a sister, three grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends who knew him.
