Dorothy Bynes Obituary

Dorothy Hart Bynes was born May 8, 1937, daughter of the late John and Pearl Hart. She gained her wings on January 6, 2026 surrounded by her loving family.
Dorothy was educated in the public school of Calhoun County. As a young teenager, Dorothy decided to move to New York. While in New York, she worked as a housekeeper for a little while, then after, she did what she loved best, being a caregiver.
In 1989, Dorothy relocated to Orangeburg, SC. After a couple years, she became the caregiver of four grandchildren, sharing unconditional love, stability, guidance, and strength, and most of all keeping her grandchildren in church.
Dorothy loved going to church where she attended Passion of the Cross Ministries of Orangeburg, SC. She enjoyed cooking, planting flowers in her yard, traveling, and having family gathering and cookouts.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her late husband George Bynes, two brothers John Hart and Joe L. Hart, and sister Almeta Hart.
Dorothy leaves to cherish three children: daughter Martha Grier of Columbia, SC; two sons Curtis (MiShone) Dickson of Yonkers, NY and Stephen (Amy) Dickson of Edgewater, NJ. Four Brothers: Ernest (Mildred) Hart, and Marvin (Ester) Hart both of Orangeburg, SC; Three Sisters: Annie Ruth Washington of Orangeburg, SC, Lugenia B. Golden-Smoak and Selesta Carl Haynes both of Saint Matthews, SC. Grandchildren: Katrina Dickson, Monique Bynes, and Cody Bynes all of Orangeburg, SC; Derek (Paige) Bynes of Jacksonville, FL; Terrance Guinyard and Jamel Guinyard both of Columbia, SC; Brittany Dickson of Yonkers, NY; and Stephan Dickson of Edgewater, NJ. Great- Grandchildren: De'Jaun Keitt, Jreem Young, Zion Bynes, and Zymir Bynes all of Orangeburg, SC; Jamel Guinyard, Jr. and Ja'zuri Jeanette Guinyard both of Columbia, SC. Host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, and friends that will miss her dearly.


The service will proceed as follows: 


There will be NO PUBLIC VIEWING. 


The funeral will be held on Saturday, January 17,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am.
