In The Beginning… Elder Daniel Butler better known as “Joe” was born August 5, 1951 in Orangeburg South Carolina the son of the late Hercules Butler and the late Frances Heyward Butler.
A Man of Faith… “Deacon Joe” was a devout Christian who loved the Lord and gave his life to Christ at the Garden of Prayer in Orangeburg SC where he faithfully served on the Deacon’s Board. He later moved his membership to St. Matthews Christian Center Cathedral where he faithfully served on the Deacon’s Board, the church Board and later he was elevated to the office of Elder.
Life’s Journey… “Joe” was educated in the public schools of Orangeburg SC and graduated with the Orangeburg Wilkinson. His work career started at Orangeburg Regional Hospital and he worked for over 45 years at Orangeburg Redi Mix before retiring.
“Joe” met and married the love of his life, Bernice “Bernie” Keitt Butler, and during their union of over 56 years, they were blessed with a daughter, Linda Butler Wright.
He was definitely a Man of God, a dedicated and loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Provider. In addition to his love for his family, “Joe” loved working around the church, fishing, playing his keyboard and watching wildlife and animal shows.
“Joe” was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Samuel “Sammie” Butler.
Elder Butler is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Bernice whom he affectionately called “Bernie”, his daughter, Linda (Shelton Sr.) Wright; his grandchildren: Shelton “Whop” (Key Mani) Wright, Jr., and Shanice “Muffin” Wright. A step-granddaughter, Ny Ailah Alzia Jainell Cooper. His siblings: Timothy (Ella) Butler of Eutawville, SC, Glenn(Vanessa) Butler of Norwalk Connecticut, Rosemarie Tucker of Orangeburg, SC, Gary Butler, of Stamford Connecticut, and Kelvin Butler of Walterboro, SC. His in-laws: Annie Ruth Butler, Lizzie Mae Williams, Leatha Richardson, Mildred Starkes, and Richard Mae Tyler. His Aunt, Willa Dean Funchess and his Godchildren: Daniel Franklin, Precious Johnson and Valencia Wright. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends, church members, and former co-workers whom he loved dearly and loved him in return.

The service will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Friday, April 5,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.

The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 6,2024 at St. Matthews Christian Center Cathedral 731 St. Matthews Rd. St. Matthews, SC beginning at 2:30pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
