Cynthia Mims Obituary

Cynthia A. Mims was born December 26, 1948 in New York, New York to the late Harold, Sr. and Elizabeth Thomas.  Cynthia was the eldest of 12 children.

On September 7, 2020, Cynthia earned her wings and ascended into heaven to be with the Lord.

After completing her education in the New York City School System,  Cynthia embarked on a career with the New York City Housing Authority until her retirement in 2000.  Shortly after retirement, Cynthia relocated from New York to Orangeburg,  South Carolina.

Cynthia was joined in Holy Matrimony with Lewis Mims, Jr. on July 1, 2002.  Cynthia was a devoted, caring,  loving and supportive wife to her husband Lewis.  They shared an unbreakable bond.

Cynthia accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savior.  She was a member of Central United Methodist Church in Rowesdill, South Carolina where she served as an Usher, Communion Stewart and in whatever capacity she was needed.  She remained faithful to her church until the church closing.

Cynthia was Considerate, Youthful, Noble, Thoughtful, Hilarious, Irresistible and Affectionate.  She was a beautiful soul inside and out.  She never found fault with anyone.  She loved her family unconditionally and always supported them.  Cynthia would go out of her way to help anyone in need.  She enjoyed, as her pass time, playing solitaire on her computer/phone.  She had a special bond with all of her nieces, nephews and friends (each of them thinking they WERE the SPECIAL ONE).

Cynthia was predeceased in death by 2 sons: David Young and Lewis Mims; her parents:  Harold and Elizabeth Thomas; Grandmother: Jessie Porter; 2 sisters: Deborah Williams and Kathleen Carter; 3 brothers: Victor Thomas, Perry Thomas and Steven Thomas; 2 sisters n law: Patricia Thomas and Mamie Govan; 2 brothers n law: Thomas Tucker and John Mims.

Cynthia leaves to cherish her fondest and precious memories:  Her loving husband Lewis Mims; 3 daughters:  Stephanie (Andre) Lewis, Kendall (Ralph) McKay and Daphne (Hassan) Abdul-Hakim all of Jacksonville, Florida; 2 Sons: Maurice (Ebony) Mims and Kevin (Denise) Mims both of New York;  1 adopted son Malachi Govan of Orangeburg, SC.  16 Grandchildren:  Ralph, Andre, Lamont, Porsha, Andreya, Darren, Ebony (Tresair), Khadija, Charlene, Talia, David, Moasia, Mason, Kiana, Kyle and Autumn; 11 great-grandchildren: 3 Sisters: Sharon (Keith) Miller of Palm Bay, FL., Tracy Thomas of Virginia Beach, VA. and Adraine (Vincent) Stokes of New York.  4 Brothers: Harold (Ernestine) Thomas of Jesup, GA;   Eric Thomas of Pooler, GA., Daryl (Thomasina) Thomas of New York and Anthony (Pamela) Thomas of New Jersey.  3 brothers in law: Stanley Carter of New York, Ernest Williams of Jesup, GA., and Lucis Mims of Orangeburg, SC;  4 sisters in law:  Jackie Thomas of New York, NY., Doris Dooley of Orangeburg, SC, Linda (Eddie) Ellis of New Jersey, Beulah Mims of Bowman, SC and 2 Aunts.  Cynthia also leave an abundance of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends who truly loved her and will miss her dearly.
