Clarence Govan Obituary

“For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:6-8 KJV
Clarence Govan, the son of the late Willie Lee and Eartha Mae Govan, was born on March 27, 1948. He entered into eternal rest on February 2, 2026.
Clarence attended G.W. Carver School and worked at the Holiday Inn Restaurant, Cleckley & McGhee Construction, Utica Tool Company for over 30 years, and Orangeburg Consolidated School District #4 until he retired.
At an early age, he joined Emanuel AME Church. He was married to the late Eartha Bell Govan for over 50 years, until her passing in November of 2021.
He was hardworker with a very quiet and pleasant personality that touched many. Clarence was known as the grill master to the family.
He was also known for his famous catfish and stone stew.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, and four siblings: Beulah Govan Sanders, George Govan, Junior Clay Govan,and Marion Govan.
Clarence leaves to cherish his memory: one son and three daughters: Wayne Frazier of Orangeburg, SC, Pamela Frazier of Cope, SC, Angela Wright of Cope, SC, and Bridgette Sprinkle of Orangeburg, SC. Two special grandsons raised in the home, Darius (Destinee) Frazier of Statesville, NC and Khristian Sprinkle of Orangeburg, SC; five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren. Four sister-in-laws: Sarah Jennings of Cope, SC, Sandra (Herbert) Isaac of Denmark, SC; Faith Govan of New York, NY, and Eva Govan of Cordova, SC; caregiver Tiara Downing, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.


The service will proceed as follows: 


The viewing will be held on Thursday, February 5,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.


The funeral will be held on Friday, February 6,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am.
