Charles Rigby, Sr. Obituary

Charles Edward “Jake” Rigby, Sr was born on January 21, 1942 in Bowman, SC. He was the son of the late Marvin Rigby and the late Mattie Mae Walker Tracy. A brother, Lee Irving Tracy, preceded him in death. On Friday, October 7th he departed this life at Calhoun Convalescent Center in St. Matthews, SC. Charles grew up in Bowman and was educated in the Bowman public school system. He was affiliated with Shady Grove United Methodist in St. George, SC. After school, Charles lived and worked in North Carolina, Washington, DC, New Jersey, and New York. He worked for many years as a truck driver. After living in New York for many years, he and his long-time companion, the late Catherine Glover, moved to Bowman, SC. He was employed with Kiser Lumber Company in Bowman, from where he retired. During his later years, Charles loved listening to blues and old school music, and visiting friends and family. Those who Charles leaves behind to cherish fond memories include his sons, Charles (Lee) Rigby, Jr., of Margate, FL, and Melvin Rigby of Fort Lauderdale, FL; his brother, Raymond Walker of Orangeburg, SC and sister, Miriam (Charles) Tracy Capers of Orangeburg, SC; seven grandchildren; Alicia Rigby of Sunrise FL, Charles Rigby of Dallas, GA, Justin Rigby of Atlanta, GA; Tiara Favors; of Atlanta, GA, Akili Rigby,Ft Lauderdale FL, and Melvin Rigby of Cedartown, GA; and several great-grandchildren; devoted niece, Danita Dee Capers of Lexington, SC; devoted cousin Cathy Rush of Bowman, SC; friend of 47 years, Jimmy Harris, of Greenville, NC; neighbor and friend Robert Brown of Bowman, SC; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

 

The service will proceed as follows:


The viewing will be held on Saturday, October 15,2022 at Glover's Funeral Home from 12:00pm until 5:00pm.


The funeral will be held on Sunday, October 16,2022 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 1:00pm. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
