Catina Smith-Spann Obituary

Ms. Catina Denis (Smith) Spann was born on July 01, 1972 to Mr. Jimmy Smith and Mrs. Eartha Mae (Moorer) Smith. Tina, as most of her family and friends called her, spent her childhood and residence in both Denmark, SC and in Cope, SC on the land to which most commonly referred as “Momee house”. Both places bestowed upon her fond childhood and adult memories that she heartfully spoke of so very often. She currently resided in her home in Sumter, SC where she loved and lived for 27 years.
Tina was reared in and joined Macedonia AME Church, the family church. She was a part of the youth choir and remained active on the books of the church throughout. Tina received her education within the Orangeburg County School District Four school system, graduating from Edisto High School, Class of 1990. Tina also earned her Associate’s Degree in Medical Assisting from Central Carolina Technical College, in which her career history dually aligned, and her last employment being Fort Jackson’s SC Youth Challenge.
Tina was a strong, but yet hardworking, dedicated, and devoted mother to her two sons, whom she loved dearly and always strived to give her very best so that they could accomplish and have more than enough. She absolutely adored her three grand girls, to whom she was called and affectionately known as “Gigi”. Tina’s personality was by far Big and Bold, her laugh was loud, distinct, and infectious, and her presence was without a doubt felt in any room, church, cookout, workplace,or event when she entered! She had a passion for cooking, an enjoyment for baking, a voice for singing so beautifully, a move for dancing, a craft for bringing new ideas tolife, a starter of a card game or Pokeno, an itch for traveling, and ultimately a love for family gatherings.

Catina D. Spann transitioned into heavenly rest on Saturday January 27, 2024 at Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital, Sumter, SC.
She was preceded in death by her beloved father Jimmy, her maternal grandparents L.C Moorer and Maedell Rivers Moorer (“Ma” whom she lovingly considered and embraced as her mom), her paternal grandparents Williard Smith Sr and Geneva Hicks Smith, and other close relatives in her life.
She leaves to cherish her many memories, her sons Naquan Spann of the home, Tevin Spann (Charlotte, NC), her precious grand girls, Amiya Spann (AK), Arielle Spann (Spicy), and Aubrielle Spann (Cheetoh), her life partner and special friend Robert Green, her mother Eartha M. Smith, one sister Daffney Deloach, cousin/sister Danielle Radford-Odom, four brothers Jamie (Etta) Smith, James Antrell Smith, Jimmele Smith Sr., JaMori Smith, and a host of nieces and nephews, and two God children. Her aunts, Julia Moorer, Mattie (Harvey) Bonaparte, Saint Claire (Tyrone) Kennerly, Linda Moorer, Shelia Moorer, Jessie Mae Radford, Helen Williams, Deborah Dobson, Margaret Smith, her uncles Edward (MaryAnn) Moorer, L.C (Joyce) Moorer Jr., David Moorer, and John Calhoun.
