Barbara Jean Bookhardt “Bobbie” was born May 19, 1954 in Santee, SC to Lula Mae Bookhardt and the late David Bookhardt, Jr. She was educated at Robert High School in Holly Hill, SC and also attended Kenneth Shuler Beauty School of Cosmetology. Barbara joined Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church at an early age. She was the Sunday School leader and Church Secretary.
Barbara was employed with the Orangeburg Consolidated School District Three for twenty-nine years and eight months before retirement in August of 2020. She had a gift for sewing and doing hair.
Barbara leaves to cherish her fond memories, a son Reggie (Sylvia) Bookhardt of Chesterfield, Virginia, a daughter Tonya (Marcus) Weeks of Lexington, SC; and an adopted daughter Ashley Rivers of Vance, SC. Four grandchildren: Daquan, Talysia, YaMaya, and Donte. Two great grandchildren: Zion and Tymir. Thirteen brothers and sisters; Eddie Bookhart of Holly Hill, SC; Curtis Bookhart of Lousianna, Steven Bookhart of Atanta, GA, Lynn Bookhart of Santee, SC, Jeanette Gadson and Lavern King of Eutawville, SC, Lillie Pearl Ravenell of Santee, SC, Emma Jean (Antley) Ravenell of Vance, SC, Diane Bookhart of Eutawville, SC, and one brother who proceeded her in death James Bookhart, Lakeisha (Jason) Clark of Goose Creek, SC, Sandy (Matthew) Johnson of Walterboro, SC and Marvin Branch of Walterboro, SC. Adopted sister Georgia Davis of Dade City, Florida. Best Friend Annette Johnson Orangeburg, SC; Two special Aunts, Virginia Johnson of Orangeburg, SC and Janie Mae Brown who proceeded her in death. An Uncle B.J Bookhardt of Elloree, SC. Special Friend Wilbur Davis of Santee, SC and two close friends Jason Bryant of Vance, SC and Tawanda Haynes of Elloree, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family and friends.
Services for Ms. Barbara Jean Bookhardt will proceed as follows:
The Viewing will be Friday, August 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the Glover’s Funeral Home Chapel.
The Funeral Service will be Saturday, August 19, 2023 at 11:00 AM in the Red Hill Missionary Baptist Church, 3425 Old State Road, Santee, South Carolina.
Staff and all those attending must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
