Asilee Gallishaw Walker, compassionately known as “Roxie” was the oldest child born to the late Jessie and Rosa Gallishaw on July 11,1917.She was born in Bowman, South Carolina. God called his precious daughter home to be with HIM for an eternal rest on Saturday night, February 19, 2022, with her family by her bedside in Columbia, South Carolina.
Asilee gave her life to Jesus Christ at a very early age attending church with her grandfather. At an early age she learned to pray, for others as she was taught by him. She enjoyed singing on the choirs in church. Her strong belief in Jesus Christ is that she is waiting for HIS return where she will be raised to be carried to Heaven.
She was educated mostly by her grandfathers’ sister who taught her how to read, write and count. She moved to New York city at an early age and was employed by the New York telephone company and rendered 30 years of faithful service.
In 1974, she moved to Beaufort, SC where she was united in marriage to the late Deacon Gilbert Walker. Asilee was a faithful, dedicated servant at First African Baptist Church. A devoted choir member and served as a Cook for many church Anniversary dinners.
She loved baking, gardening, and singing her spiritual hymns. She enjoyed “What A Friend we have in Jesus: “One day at a time” and “Blessed Assurance”. Asilee’s motto was: “Pray for others before you Pray for yourself.”
She was always providing funny expression to give you something to think about as she was taught by her grand parents and parents such as: “The Cow will always need its tail again to swish away the flies” “Never let the right hand know what the left hand is doing” “Rolling stone gathers no Moss” and “This too shall pass”.
