Ms. Annie Ruth “Gem” Middleton, 86, was the daughter of the late Edward Middleton and Lillie Mae Footman Middleton. She was born on August 4, 1939 in Orangeburg County. She fell to sleep on June 20, 2026 following a brief illness where she fought courageously with the same grit and strength she showed throughout her life.
Gem was a faithful believer, exercising her faith all of her life! In her later years, she was active with the Kingdom Hall in Orangeburg until her health slowed her down. Her heart showed most in that she was a natural caregiver who "mothered" everyone she met. Whether she was your actual mother, aunt, sister, or just a chosen mother figure, she made sure you felt seen & supported. She leaves behind a beautiful legacy of generosity and compassion, while being feisty & stubborn with a quick wit! As a family, we will keep her legacy alive through the countless memories we all made with her.
Gem was employed by and retired from Ambler Industries in Orangeburg where she was a seamstress and then an inspector.
Gem was preceded in death by parents; sisters, Edna Middleton and Willie Mae Hampton and brothers; Marion, Rogers, Bill, Richard, Edward Jr. and Leon Middleton.
Gem leaves to cherish precious memories, her two daughters: Dinah (Abdul) Wells of Greenville, SC and Tina (Germaine) Fields of North, SC; two sons: Bobby (Jill) Middleton of Orangeburg, SC and Ronnie Middleton of South Carolina; special niece Tanya Middleton of Simpsonville, SC; sisters: Charlene (Tee) Baxter of Orangeburg, SC and Thomasina Roey of Jacksonville, FL; two sisters-in-law: Mildred Middleton of North, SC and Mary Middleton of Orangeburg, SC; thirteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, dear relatives and friends.

The service will proceed as follows: 

The viewing will be held on Thursday, June 25,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm. 

The funeral will be held on Friday, June 26,2026 at Glover's Funeral Home beginning at 10:30am.
