Adell Thomas Polite was born on September 25, 1926, in Bowman, SC. She was the eldest of nine children to the late Mr. Gettie Thomas and the late Mrs. Edna Carson Thomas. She graduated high school from the Bowman Rosenwald School of Bowman, SC. After graduation, Adell became a mother to two wonderful sons Horace “Bubba” Thomas and Ronnie Jenkins. To make more opportunities for her family, she decided to move to Jersey City, NJ to work at her uncle’s restaurant and a laundry service.
She was united in holy matrimony to the late Daniel Messiah Polite in 1954. She was employed with Owens Illinois in North Bergen, NJ for over 20 years until she retired. During retirement, Adell decided to begin babysitting in Jersey City, NJ. Adell decided she wanted to enjoy the most out of her retirement by moving back south to Bowman, SC in 1995. There she began raising her great-grandchildren: Donovan, Octavia, and Diamond, and Corey Thomas.
Adell’s favorite hobbies during retirement were watching soap operas and crossword puzzles. Adell knew her time was coming to an end and she wanted to be around loved ones. She passed peacefully surrounded by family members at her granddaughter’s home on May 30th, 2024 at 8:00AM.
She was preceded in death by one son; Horace “Bubba” Thomas; five sisters, Mattie Mae Edwards, Essie Clark, Eartha Stokes, Edna Clay Bookard, and Rozella Berry; Two brothers,Samuel Thomas and Howard Thomas.
Adell leaves to cherish her memories her loving son, Ronnie (Gloria) Jenkins; one brother, Daniel Thomas; Daughter-in-law, Christine Thomas, nine grand-children, Carlton Thomas, Tiwana (Melvin) Johnson, Frasquita (Joseph) Davis, Natasha (Said) Ullah, Lakeisha Jenkins, Mark (Vernessa) Thomas, Ronnie (Keisha) Jenkins, Jr., Tyeisha (Corey) Taylor, Tanya (Anthony) Odums, 23 Great Grands, five Great-great grands. Three sister-in laws; Emma Thomas, Evelyn Thomas, Venus Amiker, Two Brother-in-laws; Laurie Berry, Earl Polite; a goddaughter, Chiquitta Dawkins; a special niece, Gwendolyn (Tyrone) Gilyard; a special friend, Andrew (Betty) Berry,Jr., and a host of nieces nephews, family and friends.
The service will proceed as follows:
The viewing will be held on Tuesday, June 4,2024 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 6:00pm.
The funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 5,2024 at Pineville United Methodist Church 1808 Winter Creek Rd. Bowman, SC 29018 beginning at 11:00am. All those attending service must wear a mask and adhere to all COVID-19 rules and regulations.
