Sammie Benjamin Sr. Obituary

Mr. Sammie Lee (Punch) Benjamin Sr. was born December 17th, 1944 in Calhoun County. He was the son of the late, Fred and Blanche Shuler Benjamin. He departed this life to be with the Lord on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina.

He was educated in the public schools of Calhoun County. He worked for many years as a farmer and in maintenance at Nibco in Denmark, South Carolina. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him.

He was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church in Cope, South Carolina. He was the son-in-law of the late Willie and Inez Odom Williams who proceeded him in death.

He was united in holy matrimony to Earline Benjamin who preceded him in death. To this union 11 children were born, 3 preceding him in death.

He leaved to cherish his memories six daughters, Patricia Williams, Melissa (David) Cleckley, Deloris Gethers, Inez (Anthony) Snell, Loretta (Anthony) Jamison of Lithonia, GA and Albertha Benjamin of Columbia, South Carolina; two sons, Sammie (Tonya) Benjamin Jr. of San Diego, CA and John Benjamin of Orangeburg, SC. Eight sisters; Annie Benjamin Gevan of Vallejo, CA, Bertha (Allen) Williams of Bamberg, SC, Isabella (Heyword) Primas of St. George, SC, Verna (Ricky) Love of Augusta, GA, Joanne Washington of St. George, SC, Jeanette (Rivers) Felter of Columbia, SC, Louise (Frank) Hannigan of Philadephia, PA, Eva Mae (Daniel) Harmon of Eastover, SC. Six brothers; Leroy (Miranda) Benjamin of Orangeburg, SC, Jimmy (Maragret) White of Eastover, SC, David (Gail) Higgins of Columbia, SC, James Higgins of Eastover, SC, Joe Lewis (Betty) Higgins of Columbia, SC, Zachary (Carol) Higgins of St. Louis, MO. Five sister-in-laws, six brother-in-laws, 22 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, a special friend, Joyce Lockette and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

 

Services will proceed as follows:

The viewing will be held on Monday, March 25th, 2019 at Glover's Funeral Home from 1:00pm until 8:00pm.

The service will take place on Tuesday, March 26th, 2019 at Glover's Funeral Home at 2:00pm.
