Mr. Rogers Johnson entered into eternal rest on Saturday, July 20, 2019 in
Kinston, NC, following an extended illness. He was born, March 20, 1933 to the late
Robert Lee Johnson and Ruth Bookard Johnson, in Orangeburg County, South
Carolina.
Rogers received his education in the Orangeburg County School System and
worshipped at The Andrew Chapel Baptist church with his family. He did farm work
well into his adult years before relocating to Washington, DC and later retiring to
Rogers’ union with the late Lillie Mae Scott resulted in two wonderful children,
Bruce and Angela Johnson.
He worked as a roofer and as a construction laborer until he retired.
Rogers was a humble, loyal, easy going, people person who loved his family.
He attended Apostolic Deliverance Church of Christ # 1, of Kinston, NC, until his
health failed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Delores Woods, and four brothers:
Willie, Aubrey, Clarence and James.
Rogers leaves to cherish his memory, two loving children, Bruce (Marie) Johnson,
and Angela Johnson both of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren: Latina, Bruce, Jr.,
Barry, Brian, Kenley, Patricia and Jason; nine great grandchildren. Rogers is also
survived by 10 siblings: including three brothers, Abraham Johnson, Bronx, NY,
Samuel (Lillian) Johnson, Bronx, NY, Leroy Johnson, Columbia, SC; and seven
sisters: Pernell Johnson, Far Rockaway, NY, Esther (Joel) Muldrow, Jessie (Keith)
Younge, Theresa (Sammie) Payne, of Bronx, NY, Dorothy (Johnny) Matthews, NYC,
Bessie (James) Oliver, Fair Bluff, NC, and Carolyn Fisher, Bethesda, MD; and one
Sister in law, Alfreda B. Johnson, Orangeburg, SC.
Rogers shared many years with longtime devoted friend, and caregiver - Helen
Moore of Kinston, NC; along with a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth
there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge,
shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love His
appearing.” 2 Timothy 4:7-8.
The services will proceed as follows:
The viewing will take place at Glover’s Funeral Home on Friday, July 26, 2019 at 12:00pm until 8:00pm.
The service will be held at Glover’s Funeral Home on Saturday, July 27, 2019 beginning at 11:00am.
