Nathaniel Bruce

Nathaniel Bruce was surrounded by his loving family members when in entered into eternal rest at The Regional Medical Center of Orangeburg, South Carolina on Wednesday morning, August 7, 2019. He was born on August 21, 1947 in Bowman, South Carolina to Agnes Coulter Bruce and Willie Bruce, Sr.

Nathaniel (Nay) as he was affectionately known by family and friends. He was educated in the public schools of Bethune Memorial High School and attended Elementary and Middle School in Brooklyn New York School System. Nay graduated in 1966 from Bethune Memorial High School in Bowman, SC. After High School, Nay married his high school sweetheart Dorothy Williams. To this union 3 children was born. 

Nay was employed by Kizer Lumber Company in Bowman, South Carolina for many years, until he retired. At an early age he joined St. Michael United Methodist Church (Now New Covenant United Methodist Church).

Nay is preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Williams-Bruce, his mother Agnes Coulter Bruce, his maternal grandparent Alice & Joseph Coulter and his paternal grandparents Gee & Minnie Bruce.

Nathaniel found love again in 2015 and married Sharon Smith of New Jersey.  He leaves to cherish his fond memories; his loving wife Sharon Smith Bruce; his father Willie Bruce Sr. of Orangeburg SC. Three sons: Tony Bruce of Charlotte NC; Oscar Bruce of Freeport Long Island N. Y. and Steven Bruce of Brooklyn NY.; 8 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Two brothers: Willie (Evelyn) Bruce of Orangeburg SC and Randy (Gina) Bruce of San Diego California. One step-sister Patty Hill of Rosalyn Heights N.Y. 4 stepsons, Rene, Desmond, Kelvin & John Smith, 1 aunt Mrs. Idella Davenport of Orangeburg SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Services will proceed as follows:

The viewing will take place at Glover’s Funeral Home. 

The memorial service will be held on Friday, August 16, 2019  at Glover’s Funeral Home beginning at 11:00am.
